JC Barre Teacher Spotlight: Madelyn Eltringham
Our newest instructor, Madelyn, joined JC Barre last year and takes over our Sundays mornings at least twice a month. Let's learn more about her!
Madelyn, is a New Jersey native, graduated summa cum laude in May 2015, with a BFA degree in Dance Performance from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. Back in 2013 she was chosen to take part in the Conservatory's international exchange program, giving her the opportunity to study abroad at London Contemporary Dance School. Since graduating, Madelyn has gone on to perform as a freelance artist with choreographers throughout New York and New Jersey and is a member of the Jersey City-based modern dance company, Connolly & Co.
Madelyn began her journey into fitness after she fell in love with Pilates while recovering from a hip injury and earned her certification through Power Pilates. She is currently on faculty at dance schools across NY/NJ. Madelyn recently moved to Jersey City and is excited to combine her many passions in her barre classes!
How long have you been teaching?
Madelyn: I began teaching after graduating about 4 years ago and started teaching at JC Barre this past December. It is so fulfilling to be a teacher and see the impact I have on other’s wellness. I feel very lucky!
Do you teach any other type of fitness classes or programs?
Madelyn: When I am not at the barre, you will find me in the dance studio teaching around New Jersey and New York. I teach ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and modern dance to students as young as 2 through adults! I am a certified Power Pilates instructor and love incorporating that training across all disciplines as well.
Do you have another career focus other than fitness? If so, please share.
Madelyn: Aside from teaching, the other large part of my career is performing. I have been dancing since I was three years old and have always known it was what I wanted to do! I am a member of Connolly & Co., a Jersey City-based modern dance company and work with as many choreographers as possible. When I am rehearsing and creating in the studio or performing on stage, that is where I feel like I am truly myself!
Why do you love teaching the ladies at JC Barre?
Madelyn: I love being a part of the Jersey City Barre community! I cannot find a group of more hard working, dedicated, and positive clients anywhere else. Whether it is early in the morning or after a day of work, their spirits and smiles motivate me to be the best instructor I can be. My pursuit of a career in the arts has taught me the meaning perseverance as well as the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Teaching barre is a way for me to share all of the information I have gained through dance and fitness while delivering it in a fun and uplifting way. Movement is my passion and seeing the impact I can have on my client’s lives by giving them that experience is so rewarding!
What do you enjoy doing on your down time?
Madelyn: I am usually moving around a lot so, in my down time I love reading a good book and baking! I try to see as many performances as I can around Jersey City and New York.
