Kali joined JC Barre a few months ago and has taken over Wednesday and Friday early mornings as well as most Sunday evenings! She shares a little bit about herself in this week's feature.
Originally from Rochester, NY, the home of Wegmans & Kodak, Kali grew up dancing her entire life. She attended the University of Rochester where she received a Bachelors Degree in Brain & Cognitive Science and a second Bachelors Degree in Studio Arts. She moved to Hoboken, NJ in 2009 to get her Masters in Arts Administration from Pratt Institute; she has worked for dance and theater companies ever since.
*FUN FACT* Kali will be appearing in Women's Health Magazine in 2018 (between January and May) so keep an eye out for this real fit women's feature in an upcoming issue!
How long have you been teaching Barre?
Kali: I have been teaching barre classes for about a year and half. My favorite barre move is mermaid, I love those floor glutes!
Do you teach any other type of fitness classes or programs?
Do you have another career focus other than fitness? If so please share.
Kali: I also work for an arts charity in Hell's Kitchen as their Development Director. The organization, The 52nd Street Project, teaches kids how to write plays and pairs them with professional Directors and Actors. The Directors and Actors mentor the kids as they become Playwrights and then produce and present each kid's play for a full audience. The performances are all free to attend and it is some of the most amazing (and hysterical) theater you'll see in NYC. You should all come and bring your kids! If you want to know more just ask me!
Why do you love teaching the ladies at JC Barre?
Kali: My favorite part of teaching the JCBarre Squad is their ferocity! JCBarre clients are so eager to take on a challenge, to test out a heavier set of weights, and to sprint out their mountain climbers with such tenacity!
What do you enjoy doing on your down time?
Kali: I'm a huge HBO fan, I love spending an entire evening just binge watching a great series. I also really like to travel, I've been to a bunch of awesome countries, Greece, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand, India, Malawi, Croatia, Sweden, Prague...oh and Canada! I'm sure there are probably some I'm missing here...
