JC Barre Teacher Spotlight: William Tomaskovic

William is a super star at our studio. His recurring Monday night class is a client favorite and always has a waitlist! Yes, he is that awesome!! His no judgement, motivational, fun, welcoming vibes make him many clients favorite! Let's learn more about him.

William has been a Jersey City resident for the past 4 years however, he is originally from Flemington, NJ. He earned a BFA in dance from Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts on a full scholarship. Post grad, he apprenticed with NYC-based Keigwin + Company, as well as traveled to Istanbul with the Julia Ritter Performance Group, where he created and performed in an immersive dance theater production in collaboration with local Turkish dance makers. Today, he continues his passion as a professional dancer, working with an all male repertory company 10 Hairy Legs and NYC companies ZviDance & Bryn Cohn + Artists.

How long have you been teaching Barre?

William: I've taught at JC Barre since January 2015. I discovered barre long before I knew it was a fitness method- I just knew the concepts as exercises incorporated in ballet. I've also taught dance since college, and have always loved creating classes & sharing movement information. Teaching fitness, for me, is a perfect mix of teaching mechanics & athletic movement: it's just a form of dance. In my off time from rehearsing I knew I wanted to continue training & teaching, so my progression into finding JCBarre kind of naturally happened. Post my barre training I went on to get my ACE fitness certification, as well as my Tabata Bootcamp teaching methodology certification.

Do you teach any other type of fitness classes or programs?

William: I teach B3 & cardio barre, Sassy Stretch, circuit burn, and Bootcamp45 at JcBarre. Additionally, I'm on substitute faculty at Base, an instructor with Manhattan Exercise Company specializing in tabata & core classes, and a dance instructor specializing in "contemporary technique" master classes with Man in Motion, Inc. My career focus is split between dancing professionally & teaching fitness & dance. I don't consider any of my focuses to be secondary to another- I'll always give 110% to the task at hand.

Why do you love teaching the community at JC Barre?

William: I love JCBarre because it is a true community. My goal for the rest of 2017 & for 2018 is to continue fostering the vibrant community that makes up our clientele. You walk in these studio doors & you become family. I want everyone to know they have a secondary home here at the barre & your classmates/fellow warriors, and instructors are all here for each other. We are not a corporate gym- our focus is on each and every person who walks into the studio- let us know your goals & we will work endlessly to help you succeed. I'm always available for questions, concerns, or life updates.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

William: In 10 years I hope to still be dancing, teaching a lot of classes (dance & fitness), and personally training clients. I'm also interested in Physical Therapy & see a future in which I pursue an integrated fitness & PT path.

What do you enjoy doing on your down time?
